The resurrection of Camp Anytown
The summer before my senior year in high school I attended Camp Anytown. This one week was perhaps the most influential week of my entire adolescent experience. I could talk about this camp for hours on end, but alas, I will spare any readers and myself from the time and energy. The camp taught me how to love and accept others in all of the diversities. As a group of 80 teenagers the program and our counselors worked with us through an intense, fun and emotional journey that explored tough topics such as gender, religion, ethnicity, disabilities, community and so much more. The organization collapsed many years ago, but an amazing long time counselor, Anthony, has stepped to resurrect the camp. Anthony (found me on facebook!) has contacted me and I am thrilled to say that a group of past counselors are organizing a weekend version of the camp in May. I am so ecstatic to be apart of this future program and I cannot wait until the full week long camp is up and running again!
